Johann Fourie is well known as one of the Rock Stars of the Cape wine industry in South Africa. The former Diners Club Wine Maker of the year joined Benguela Cove as Head Winemaker in 2016. His focus is estate grown fruit expressing the property and the greater Walker Bay’s unique terroir and character. The commitment and energy will be to put this character into the bottle.

Our focus for the Mannings Heath vineyard will be sparkling wines from Sussex. Both Benguela Cove and Mannings Heath are cool climate upcoming global wine regions which will become even more important going forward considering global warming and where the world palate from a stylistic point of view is moving.

We plan to build a sparkling wine focused winery at Mannings Heath who will be in sync with our Benguela Cove philosophy, which is to concentrate on up and coming cool climate wine regions in both SA and the UK. Sussex and Walker Bay wine regions are becoming more and more in favour because of the quality and authenticity of the wines produced from these two regions.
